Backyard Safari
It was getting close to dinnertime
But I had everything in line
So when I saw my baby daughter's face
All forlorn but at the same time still
so full of grace

I had to brighten her heart and
take her on an adventure
As we made our way we made
our own travel brochure

A little excursion not so faraway
There is always enough time
for a little horseplay
It was a special time for her and I
Mother and daughter eye to eye

So we began our backyard safari
We came upon many things that caused
us to ponder and quandary

Yellow jackets making a nest where
they were not suppose to be
Fellow foolers were we as we jiggled
spider webs in hopes to see the enemy

Causing homely spiders
to rear their mysterious heads
At the same time counting beauteous
butterflies as their wings spread

Soaring all around us in the fairy garden
that we made together
Sharing a special moment that
will last forever

Pumpkins turning orange along with
the sunflowers we had sown
Both of us amazed at the place we
both called home

We next focused on an unusual looking
spider hanging from the garage all asunder
He seemed to have eaten plenty and plundered

My daughter stated," George is his name"
"How did you know that?" I asked in refrain

"My daddy told me just the other day"
"Then George it must be!"
I replied with pride and certain glee

For her daddy had also had
a special moment with our fair Lizzie
One that we all remember
as our backyard safari.

Can newborns recognize their mother's face?
Surprisingly, yes. Full-term infants have exhibited the ability to recognize their own mother's face as early as four hours after birth. Infants also show a marked preference for their mother's voice AND for their mother's odor.
