Cayenne
Referred to by capsicum, is annual when cultivated, put perennial in
its native tropical America.  The glaborous stem is woody at the
bottom and branched near the top.  The leaves are woody at the bottom
and branched near the top.  The leaves are ovate to lanceolate,
entire and petioled.  The ripe fruit, or pepper is a many seeded pod
with a leathery outside in various shades of red or yellow.  The
white to yellow flowers grow alone or in pairs or in threes.

The Cayenne or red pepper plant is generally used as a stimulant to
build up resistance for an oncoming cold.  Externally it is used to
reduce excess flow of blood and consists of other action abilities of
appetizer, digestive, irritant, sialogue, and tonic.  CAUTION:  do
not consume in excess as it can cause gastroenteritis and kidney
damage.

Iris borers cause foliage to be ragged and yellow-streaked and rhizomes soft and mushy. The tunneling in the rhizome allows rot diseases to invade. To control, dig up, remove, and destroy severely infected rhizomes.
