Just A Few More Household Hints
Soothe a burned tongue. With Domino sugar. Just a few grains relieves the pain.
Dye your hair. With Folgers instant coffee. Add a packet with your regular conditioner & mix well. Apply and let set 1 minute, then rinse clean for brown hair.
Remove grass stains from clothing. With Karo corn syrup. Rub onto stain & wash as normal.
Mirrors can be streaklessly cleaned by using denatured alcohol and a soft cloth.
Clean ruffled or pleated lamp shades with a baby's hair brush. The bristles are soft and will not shag or harm the shade.
Dusting with a paintbrush can be an effective way to get into those hard to reach door jambs, etc.
Heal paper cuts. With ChapStick. Rub on paper cuts to stop the pain immediately & heal the cut.
Relieve insect bites. With Ban deodorant.
Works to stop the itching better than the usual medications.
Strengthen fingernails. With Jell-O. Mix strawberry flavored Jell-O with water to make a paste paint on your nails.
Makes nails grow longer & stronger & stains your nails red & they smell great all day.
Keep ants out of a pet food dish. With Vaseline. Rub a small dab around bottom rim of bowl.
Polish shoes. With Pledge furniture polish. Makes shine last longer. Spray & buff dry. Also helps repel water stains in winter.
Whenever you have extra broth, pour it into a plastic ice cube tray and freeze. Once frozen they can be removed and stored in the freezer in a plastic bag. They can be added to soups or used to saute foods.
Clear plugged sinks by pouring a half-cup of baking soda followed by a full cup of vinegar into the drain before pouring down some hot water. To clear a greasy clogged drain, pour a cup of salt water and a cup of soda down the drain, followed by hot water.
Use a little toothpaste to remove black scruff marks from appliances.
To remove mineral deposit from the inside of a steam iron, fill it with equal parts water and white vinegar. Let it steam for several minutes, then disconnect and let set for 1 hour. Empty and rinse with clear water .
To remove rust on knives, pierce an onion with the rusty knife, leave it for 24 hours. Move it back and forth before removing it;
then rinse off.
