The Day Before Yesterday
(Humor)
T'was the day before yesterday
Or maybe last week,
I had just settled down
To watching TV ...
When what to my wondering
Ears should hear
But the door bell ringing
That company is here!
Away went the night gown,
Had to cover this sag,
Threw open the candy
Left in the bag ...
Straightened the pillows,
Made everything neat,
Ran toward the door;
Only to my defeat.
Tripped over cat's toy,
Landed on my back.
"Hello, I'm coming!"
Now, just to get up.
Oh, the aches and groans,
Getting just to my knees.
Sure hope they can hear me,
"Hold on, please!"
Crawling the distance
With greetings in tact,
I reached for the door knob;
Started sharing in that.
But when I looked to see
Who the company might be,
There was only a package
And it was for me.
So, with the door knob,
I pulled to my feet,
Bent to lift the box
And let out a scream.
Neighbors came running,
Helped me back to my knees.
I crawled into the house,
To my comfortable seat.
I finished the candy
And tore open the box,
And would like to thank you
For all the nice thoughts.
But the next time you think
'In remembrance' of me,
Come on over and help me up
From this blasted TV.
