Snow Clouds
Above the elm and maple tree
an elegance draws near.
And landscape bows to royalty
as wintertime is here.

Snow clouds touch a withered field
and trails where pincones hide.
Memories falling will reveal
another countryside.

The earth receives her ivory crown the season can begin.
Tonight, I lay my burdens down;
it's snowing, once again.

There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you.... In spring,  summer and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself.

Have the children line up and take a walk during the first snowfall--
with their mouths open to taste the first signs of winter!
