Believe There Is Hope
When flowers grew wild and the land was untamed
And was divided only by natural borders
Of mountains, plains, rivers and forests, un-named
By people who live by written orders.

The plains were alive with buffaloes and others
And the rivers teemed with a life of their own;
The birds of prey were counted as brothers
As were creatures of the woods and hills of stone.

Before industry and progress would tarnish the land
And befoul the air and the water that flowed...
When the people who lived here did all work by hand
And gave what they had - not felt they were owed.

There were joyous times when the people were free,
Before they were imprisoned on reservations;
They celebrated life as it ought to be
And practiced the art of preservation.

They knew the earth had but so much to give
The populations kept to a minimum
For this was the only way they could all live
So that all could enjoy the maximum

Animals were killed, not for sport but for food
For they were respected as brotherly souls;
And all that was left on the ground was their blood -
Everything was used; all the parts of their wholes.

Return to those time...yes, it can be done,
Regardless of how thesituation appears,
We're not beyond hope...If we act as one,
We can re-build and bring back those years.

Gather together what you can from the present,
For We'll be some time in transition -
Whatever you think can make it more pleasant.
But foremost, retrace and re-learn Tradition.

Our Children, Their Children and Those From Then On
Must slowly revert to the Past.
We must prepare Them for the New World beyond
To ensure that Our People will last.

We're told that Our People are the ones to survive
And the others will vanish from earth
But We must teach Our Children to thrive
So They can start to teach Theirs from birth.

A People is nothing if there is no Culture,
Just as Ours was cut out with a knife.
But if We pass it down to the Future
The Old Ways will guide Them through life.

Many will suffer and most will despair
But in one mere generation,
We've been told, the earth self-repairs
And there'll emerge a New Nation.

So heed what's been said and let Us prepare
For the day when what We've learned from life
As well as the articles that We gather to share
Will guide Those Who Follow to a better life.

Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.
