As I roam across this beautiful countryside
I love my peaceful home, and say it with pride.
Watching the sun come up is what I like best
But It's just as enjoyable going down in the west.
On a clear summer day when the sky is so blue,
Each morning It's a challenge to know what to do.
New scenes are before me as far as I can see --
The birds are so cheerful, they're singing to me.
The animals are quite curious, but remain very shy
They all watch me very close as I slowly walk by.
I strolled across the meadow over beyond the corn
Surprised to see a baby calf that was being born.
Walking along the creek, I thought of my fishing pole --
I was heading straight for my favorite water hole.
Going along the woods the trees stood so tall,
I could explore for hours and see them all.
Turning towards home, wild flowers both sides of me
I think of my family and the way it used to be.
I praise the country life for the dreams that it fills --
I have precious memories in these Madison County Hills.
