I put on my nightcap
Said my prayers,
But couldn't sleep -
Went down the stairs.
To drink a cup
of comforting tea,
( to be sure, you know
twas caffeine free. )
I made a list
As mother said -
Of trials and blessings
in my head.
I watched the list
Of blessings grow,
Clothing the trials
With a warming glow.
When sleep began
To nod my head,
Then up the stairs
And back to bed.
