Crochet Poinsettia Afghan
Size: Approx. 42 by 52 inches

Materials needed:

I chose Red Heart Jeweltones. 3.5 oz skeins red,4 skeins emerald green,5 skeins white and 1 skein yellow RedHeart Classic)Crochet hook size J.

Each motif is 8 inches from side to side

Poinsettia Motif (make 32 for small throw)

With yellow, ch 4 join with sl st to form ring

Rnd 1: Ch 3 Counts as one dc), 11 dc in ring. Sl st in top of ch 3. Fasten off.

Rnd 2: Join re in any dc, ch 8,* sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sc in next dc, ch 7, repeat from * 10 times, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next ch,sc in last ch, sl st in first ch of first petal. Fasten off

Rnd 3: Join green in any sc between petals; ch 5;* working in back of petals, dc in next sc between petals, ch2, repeat from* around, sl st in 3rd ch of ch 5.

Rnd 4: Ch 9, * sc in 2nd ch from hook,hdc in next ch, dc in nest ch, tr in next ch, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, 2 sc in ch 2 space, sc in dc, ch 8, repeat from* 10 times, work last ch 8 as before, 2 sc in ch2 space, sl st in first ch of first leaf. End off.

Rnd 5: With white, sc in each of 3 sc between leaves, * ch 1; working behind leaves, sc in each of next 3 sc, repeat from * around, end ch 1, sl st in first sc.

Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in first sc, sc in next sc, * insert hook in sc at tip of red petal and into next sc of rnd 5 at same time, draw yarn through, complete sc, 2 sc in next ch 1 space, sc in each of next 2 sc, repeat from * around, end 2 sc in last ch 1 space, sl st in first sc.

Rnd 7: Ch 3(counts as 1 dc), dc in each of next 3 sc,*ch 2, skip 1 sc, dcin each of next 4 sc, repeat from * around, end ch 2, sl st in tpo of ch 3.

Rnd 8: Ch 3, dc in each of next 3 dc,* dc in ch 2 space, sc in sc at tip if leaf, dc in each of next 4 dc, repeat from* around, end dc in ch 2 space, sc in tip of last leaf, sl st in top of ch 3.

Rnd 9: Ch 1, sc in each of the first 5 dc,* sc in sc at tip if leaf, sc in each of next 2 dc, 3 dc in next dc (makes a corner), sc in each of next 2 dc, sc in sc at tip of leaf, sc in each of next 5 dc, repeat from * around (6 corners made), end sc in each of last 2 dc, sc in sc at tip of leaf, sl st in first sc.

End off

Sew 5 motifs together in a strip. This is the width of the afghan.Sew 3 more of these strips. Sew 3 stips of 4 motifs together. Alternate the strips and sc once around the outer edge of afghan. Make fring, which is optional, by cutting a 6 inch piece if white yarn fold in half and knot through sc.
